I wanted to provide you with an update regarding shop theft issues, which people where you live are highlighting as an issue of concern in their survey responses. ⚖️ COURT RESULT ⚖️ Thanks to the work of our Neighbourhood Policing Team, persistent shoplifter Jonathon Armstrong has been sentenced to 8 weeks' imprisonment after admitting to 4 shoplifting offences and breaching his 4 week suspended sentence just days after receiving it. In addition to his custodial sentence, Armstrong has also been made subject to a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO), prohibiting him from entering any stores that are part of the Shop Watch scheme in Spennymoor. 🗣️Sergeant Matthew Fussey said : "This result sends a clear message that repeat offending will not be tolerated, and we will continue working closely with the local businesses to tackle retail crime and protect our communities." We can also confirm that another prolific shoplifter was arrested on Wednesday 24th June, and has been charged with 2 shoplifting offences and 1 public order offence. He is due to appear before the court in September.
